The Night in Hardy, Virginia

In Hardy, Virginia, I stayed with a couple I had never previously met, connected through the motorcycle community. I was the first Pakistani they had ever met and hosted in person.

Both hosts rode motorcycles. Their daughter was a motorcycle riding trainer. The family had travelled through all 50 U.S. states.

Their wooden home was more than 100 years old and had been built by their parents. Their approximately 130-year-old dining table was in third-generation use.

We shared dinner and conversations about Pakistani culture, American life and motorcycle travel. This was not a checkpoint on a map. It was the reason I ride.

The USA Loop will always be measured in miles. But Hardy, Virginia is where I remember why those miles matter.
